The six-passenger gondola lift built by Habegger from Crap Masegn to Fuorcla and on to the foot of the Vorab Glacier was put into operation in 1978. The gondola lift now has one last winter to go before it is retired.
10 examples of the iconic white and red cabins will be auctioned off on Saturday, 24 August 2024 at the Dorf- und Gewerbefest Flims (village and trade festival of Flims). If you would like to take a piece of mountain lift history home with you, you can take part in the auction between 12.30 and 1.30 pm at stand no. 88 of the Weisse Arena Gruppe (between the Tourist Information Centre and the Yellow House). The starting bid is CHF 750 and all proceeds will be donated to the Greenstyle Foundation.
In summer 2025, the lift will be modernised as part of a retrofit. A new eight-passenger gondola lift will be built on the same route. Most of the stations and supports of the old lift will remain in place. The new gondola lift will go into operation in winter 2025/26. Visitors can find out more details about the construction project at the Weisse Arena Gruppe stand at the Dorf- und Gewerbefest Flims.
