The legendary ski and snowboard race for WAG employees took place again on Thursday, 4 April 2024. The race was held on Crap Sogn Gion with the best piste conditions and a precisely set up race course. Afterwards, a delicious dinner awaited all those present in the GALAAXY. The traditional party counts as WAG’s internal end-of-season party and was once again a successful event.
Around 112 employees lined up at the start gates on Crap Sogn Gion with their start numbers and skis or snowboard. Employees from the lifts, gastronomy, LAAX School, marketing and various other areas of the Weisse Arena Gruppe took part in the race. They competed against each other in teams of four in the parallel slalom and gave it their all. Those who didn’t take part themselves joined in the excitement and ensured an exuberant atmosphere.
Popular race format with excitement
The format of the ski and snowboard race is legendary within the company and extremely popular: four parallel slaloms are set up next to each other on the piste from Crap Sogn Gion towards Alp Dado. The LAAX School team led by Hampi Casutt and many volunteers are responsible for the smooth running of the races. At the start number distribution, all participants are divided into groups of four. It doesn’t matter what type of snow sports equipment they are competing on: skis, snowboard or telemark skis. Different levels are represented in each group, which ensures fairness, but also action and excitement.
A total of 28 teams took part this year. The starting signal was given at 5.00 pm and the first four racers competed against each other. As soon as the first team member had reached the finish line, the second team member started and so on. The fastest teams progressed lap by lap until the last remaining teams competed for the podium places at the end.
Dinner and award ceremony
So much action requires proper refreshment: after the race, it was off to the GALAAXY, where a delicious dinner awaited all employees – whether fans or race participants. 200 employees were present to toast the past winter season together while it was slowly getting dark outside. After dessert, the best five teams were honoured at the awards ceremony and were able to choose some great prizes. The evening slowly drew to a close and we took the gondola back down to the valley.
